Why Chiltern?
Choosing Chiltern College enables you to access the best childcare training available. Completing The Chiltern Certificate in addition to the CACHE Diploma or NVQ means you will receive in depth preparation for your future, whether you go on to university, further training or employment in the childcare sector.
You will undertake a full range of practical placements during your 2 year course, giving you a wealth of experience with babies, toddlers and school age children.
Because we are a training college with our own nurseries on site we are able to give on-going professional training for our own qualified nursery staff. This ensures that they are always fully up to date with the latest childcare practices and our students benefit from their expertise and knowledge. Our nurseries were judged ‘Outstanding’ for both the care and the education we provide when they were inspected by OFSTED in November 2007. We also have a Quality Assurance Award from Reading Borough for our nursery education and care. Our College received an excellent grading for the last Awarding Body (CACHE) Inspection.
Our Tutors are highly qualified professionals, committed to supporting every student to enable them to reach their full potential both academically and practically. Our Tutorial Team works very closely with the staff in practical placements and each student is assigned a Personal Tutor who will guide them through all aspects of their training in addition to offering pastoral support.
The College has an international reputation for the training that we offer and our graduates are highly sought after. We receive requests from all over the world for Chiltern trained Nannies. We offer on-going support for all students, past and present.
After completion of their training students have the opportunity if they wish to spend a year at The Lily Academy in Japan, which has its own nurseries and school in Mito, Japan. This association was established nearly 20 years ago and over the years a number of students have chosen to spend some time working at The Lily Academy. We have also developed links with Dulwich College in Beijing and students can spend some time there working in their early years’ departments and taking the opportunity to travel in China.
Residential students live on site in our purpose built student accommodation, where they have their own study bedrooms. We have a Student Welfare Officer living on campus and she or her Deputy is available 24 hours a day, every day.
