NANNY CONFERENCE AND NANNY OF THE YEAR AWARD PRESENTATION 2009 HELD AT THE CHILTERN COLLEGE

The Chiltern College hosted the Nanny Conference and Nanny of the Year Award 2009 at the College on Saturday 19th September 2009. The Conference was organised in partnership with VOICE (the union for childcare and education professionals), Morten Michel (childcare insurance specialists) and Nannytax (the UK's leading payroll service for employers of Nannies). The Conference was opened by Rob Wilson MP and was very well attended. The main speaker, Sally Featherstone, gave a very thought provoking and enlightening talk on how children's brains develop and how girls differ from boys. This was followed by a presentation from the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC).

The Conference was also attended by the four 'Nanny of the Year' Finalists, Katy Fitzjohn, Jaime Frow, Kris Pohl and Andrea Hart. The announcement of the winner of Award was made at the end of the Conference. The winner was Katy Fitzjohn, who was joined by the family who nominated her and who are one of the families for whom she nannies. Second place went to Jaime Frow, whose 'nanny family' also attended the presentation. In third place was Kris Pohl and in 4th place Andrea Hart. First prize was lunch for two in Paris, travelling from London by Eurostar, (donated by Morten Michel); 2nd prize was a London Hotel and theatre break for 2 (donated by North London Nannies Nanny Agency) and 3rd prize was a Thames Sunday Lunch Cruise for 2 (donated by Nannytax). There were a number of exhibition stands for Nannies to visit during the day.

The Conference was sponsored by Charlton House Catering, the College Caterers, who donated a sit down lunch for all Conference attendees and Exhibitors in the College dining room and all refreshments during the day. REC Childcare and Greycoat Placements were the other sponsors of the Conference.

2ND YEAR STUDENTS WALK FROM GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL, LONDON, TO CHILTERN COLLEGE, CAVERSHAM

Over the weekend of 6th and 7th June 2009 some of the 2nd year students walked from Great Ormond Street Hospital to The Chiltern College, a distance of 41 miles. They were supported by the other students (who prepared food for the walk and a welcome tea for students and parents after completion of the walk). The students walked with some members of staff and were supported on the way by some of their parents who joined them for parts of the walk. The Marriott Hotel at London Heathrow also provided a room for lunch on Saturday free of charge with complimentary hot and cold drinks. DIGIPRESS Ltd of Didcot, a design, print and graphics company, organised and provided free printing of the t-shirts and sweatshirts that the students wore during the walk. It was a personal challenge for all the students that undertook the walk and also a huge boost to know that they would raise around £4,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Photographs can be found on the Gallery section of the website.
